What You Need To Think About With Recycling

By Bobby Montgomery

The following paragraphs summarize the work of recycling experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of how recycling affects the environment. Heed their advice to avoid any surprises.

Recycling refers to the process of collecting used materials which is usually considered as waste and reprocessing them. In this process these used materials are sorted and processed to be used as raw materials for the production of new products. Recycling containers are becoming more commonplace as we realize that our ecosystem requires some TLC. There are several paths to a Greener Earth and recycling provides a doable and efficient (ten times energy savings) way to participate in the process. Recycling certificates can be automatically sent to so he knows the bulbs were indeed recycled.

Plastics production also involves the use of potentially harmful chemicals, which are added as stabilizers or colorants. Many of these have not undergone environmental risk assessment and their impact on human health and the environment is currently uncertain. Plastic is a problem, and most people realize why. It is not going to go away: because natural processes will never be able to break it down.

The information about recycling facts here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about how recycling affects the environment or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

Plastic bags are used to make plastic lumber, but they get caught and tangled in the bottle recycling machines. Margarine tubs and other wide-necked plastic products with 1's and 2's on them are injection-molded , not blow-molded, like milk jugs are. Plastic is beneficial as it creates a high rate of btu's (generating a lot of heat) higher heat equals more generation for electricity. The Ames Resource Recovery plant is one of the few in the U.S., it means less trash much less!

By instituting a rigorous recycling programme, Wal-Mart is eliminating the need for the equivalent of 22,000 garbage trucks. Also, my gut feeling would be that in more equal societies people would care more for each other and the environment they share, but my gut feeling could be wrong. In any case, I would say that even with data support (which is all over The Spirit Level), there are contexts in which the analysis isn't fully (or at all) applicable.

In recent years, however, it has become increasingly common for customers to wait a while before recycling their old handsets, mainly because they hold greater amounts of important data that needs to be accessed even after switching models. Most users eventually decide to dispose of their mobile devices, though, so NTT is hoping they will make use of these recycling bins. LED lights use 80% less energy than the standard lights and last up to 10 times longer, which means they're a far better way to put some twinkle into your holiday season. They also tend to be a little sturdier than the old-school strands.

There's a lot to understand about how recycling affects the environment. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles. - 32387

Causes Of Land Pollution And Recycling Facts

By Richard Pitcher

The following article includes pertinent information about the causes of land pollution that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding of solar energy if necessary.

Solar energy is not only the cleanest energy you can find, it also takes an important part in almost all natural process in our planet. So why can't we manipulate the energy and use it properly for our daily need to substitute the nearly extinct natural energies? Solar energy is making a big impact today. In the world we live, we have put major strain on natural resources. Solar energy facts for kids in New Zealand are considered unnecessary by some. When winter hovers over New Zealand, it may seem that day after day is cloudy and grey - especially in some parts of New Zealand.

Wind and water have been used to power mills for centuries. Wind power is a totally renewable energy source with no greenhouse gas emissions, but due to its unpredictability, has problems integrating with national grids. Combined together, wind and hydrogen can cancel out their inherent defects and be an effective tool in the battle against carbon dioxide and global warming. Winds are rated in seven classes; higher class numbers indicate stronger winds.

See how much you can learn about the causes of land pollution when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don't miss out on the rest of this great information.

Wind forecasting played a significant role in enabling large-scale wind power penetration and we believe that forecasting PV production is less complex and will have similar results for enabling industry growth. Wind energy in Spain has now entered a dynamic phase where the serious challenges that arise when wind energy becomes one of the main energy supply technologies need to be met. Current policy direction signals how an intermittent power source can be integrated into the electricity market in significant quantities.

Wind, solar, tidal and biofuels are all garnering significant attention, research and investment. Opportunities abound, yet capital costs remain high. And the cost of the energy generated is more expensive than comparable fossil fuels, especially since the rapid price declines experienced by fossil fuels during the latter part of 2008. They publish a comprehensive guide and are located in their own renewable energy powered workshops, showrooms and demonstration site in Herefordshire. Wind energy plants work on the principle of aerodynamic force. The wind striking the rotor blade creates positive pressure below the sail, whilst there is negative pressure above the sail.

Solar energy has steadily been growing. Today solar energy is widely used in the US and the benefits are a big number of. Solar energy use takes many forms nowadays. Solar panels are getting cheaper. Solar Energy Host offers individual plans starting at only $9.95 per month ($119.40 per year.) For larger businesses, managed dedicated servers are also available. This compares to about $6.99/month for hosting that uses non-eco friendly energy sources.

So now you know a little bit about the causes of land pollution. Even if you don't know everything, you've done something worthwhile: you've expanded your knowledge. - 32387

Types Of Energy: The Advantages And Disadvantages

By Miriam Duque

Do you ever feel like you know just enough about the different types of energy to be dangerous? Let's see if we can fill in some of the gaps with the latest info from solar energy experts.

Solar energy has been used since prehistoric times, but in a most primitive manner. Before'70, some research and development was carried out in a few countries to exploit solar energy more efficiently, but most of this work remained mainly academic. Solar Energy Alliance has over twenty years of experience installing and selling renewable energy products. We are accredited installers under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and as such can assure customers of a quality installation with the back-up of a complete customer after-care service. Solar energy technologies offer a clean, renewable and domestic energy source.

Additionally, desalination plants will be coupled with the solar concentrating plants to bring fresh water to people in Africa. Additionally, its partnership with MIT is only one of over 600 (with research organizations, universities and manufacturers) worldwide. Nonetheless, it may be a very important one for solar power and all the things related to that! Additionally, the company is supported by several other agencies. So far the company has received 3m in funding, and is seeking a further 7m to complete its product development.

Think about what you've read so far. Does it reinforce what you already know about the different types of energy? Or was there something completely new? What about the remaining paragraphs?

Photovoltaic (PV) cells are devices that convert sunlight to electricity, bypassing thermodynamic cycles and mechanical generators. PV stands for photo (light) and voltaic (electricity), whereby sunlight photons free electrons from common silicon. Photovoltaic (PV) cells are used in simple applications e.g. Large PV systems can be integrated into buildings to generate electricity for export to the National grid. Photovoltaic (PV) solar cells directly convert sunlight into electricity. The simplest cells are used to operate wristwatches and calculators, and more complicated systems are used to light houses.

Solar energy facts for kids in New Zealand are considered unnecessary by some. When winter hovers over New Zealand, it may seem that day after day is cloudy and grey - especially in some parts of New Zealand. Solar energy offers high capacity energy during peak consumption hours, which for smouldering hot regions, offers a unique opportunity to offset power shortages.

Currently, there is a need for allocating increased resources in solar research. Compared to the old forms of depletable energy (coal, oil, nuclear), solar energy offers a clean renewable form of energy. Currently, these include long-term feed-in tariffs, government-issued investment subsidies, tax incentives and regenerative energy quotas. Put in a nutshell: CSP projects - parabolic trough plants in particular - have become bankable. Currently, prices of highly efficient solar cells can be above $1000, and some households may need more than one. This makes the initial installation of solar panels very costly.

That's how things stand right now on the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news to do with the different types of energy. - 32387

Types Of Energy To Save Our Planet

By Samantha Troutman

Do you ever feel like you know just enough about the different types of energy to be dangerous? Let's see if we can fill in some of the gaps with the latest info from solar energy experts.

Solar energy is destined to be the next super star in the quest for renewable energy. On the surface solar energy appears to be the solution to our world's energy crisis, but what is not obvious is the dark side to solar energy. Solar energy hosting companies offer individual plans starting at only $9.95 per month ($119.40 per year.) For larger businesses, managed dedicated servers are also available. This compares to about $6.99/month for hosting that uses non-eco friendly energy sources. Solar Energy welcomes manuscripts presenting information not previously published in journals on any aspect of solar energy research, development, application, measurement or policy. The term "solar energy" in this context includes the indirect uses such as wind energy and biomass.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy. But don't be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Almost all energy, after all, is ultimately stored solar power: Oil, gas, and coal were born of the ancient sunlight that fed prehistoric animals and plants, the wind is set howling by the sun's unequal heating of the atmosphere, and even a campfire draws its warmth from solar power trapped long ago through photosynthesis.

Photovoltaic cells are being increasingly used to tap into this huge resource and will play a key role in future sustainable energy systems. So far, solid-state junction devices, usually made of silicon, crystalline or amorphous, and profiting from the experience and material availability resulting from the semiconductor industry, have dominated photovoltaic solar energy converters. Photovoltaic system costs encompass both module and BOS costs. The module costs typically represents only 40-60% of total PV system costs.

Photovoltaic systems were an important power source for that mission. Solar cells have not only enabled America to explore space, the solar system, and the Earth in great detail, they also have enabled the emergence of the telecommunications industry. Photovoltaic (PV) devices convert light into electrical energy. PV cells are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon. Photovoltaic cells, commonly known as solar cells, are used to capture the sun's energy and convert it into direct current electricity. This can be used in this form or be converted into alternating current, which is like the electricity that is available from the grid.

That's how things stand right now on the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news to do with the different types of energy. - 32387

What You Need To Know About Recycling

By Harry Muse

The more you understand about recycling, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you'll find that the subject of how recycling affects the environment is certainly no exception.

Recycling metal does not just include recycling aluminium cans. Types of recycled metal The two most common recycled metals at the present time are aluminium and steel. Recycling is not a place to make money, but it can save money if it is done with the long term in mind. So the purchase of recycling receptacles should be done in a responsible and long term manner to show your business as one who cares for the planet's future and its own future. Recycling as much of our material waste as possible is one way each of us can make a difference. The State of Oregon has set a goal of recycling 64% of the waste stream by the year 2009.

Plastics production also involves the use of potentially harmful chemicals, which are added as stabilisers or colorants. Many of these have not undergone environmental risk assessment and their impact on human health and the environment is currently uncertain. Plastic is a problem, and most people realise why. It is not going to go away: because natural processes will never be able to break it down.

The information about recycling facts here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about how recycling affects the environment or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

Recycling banks and bins usually show pictures of what you can put in them. Recycling collections for your business can be easy to set up, with a number of service providers offering flexible collection options to suit your needs. Reducing, reusing and recycling your waste could lower your waste collection and disposal bills. Recycling helps in raising awareness of this 'issue' because 'as more and more people are asked to separate their garbage and see the "green" bin brimming with packets, cartons, and plastic pots (all nicely rinsed please) etc.

Recycling depends on the ability to sell recycled materials to processors who manufacture them into new products. Those revenues enable CRRA to operate the recycling program without charging towns a disposal fee for their recyclables.

Now might be a good time to write down the main recycling tips covered above. The act of putting it down on paper will help you remember what's important about how recycling affects the environment. - 32387

How Does Solar Energy Work?

By Matthew Roof

This article explains a few things about the workings of solar energy, and if you're interested, then this is worth reading, because you can never tell what you don't know.

Solar energy panels are environmental friendly and produce no pollution while generating electricity. Solar energy is also used as a power for satellites in space and in space shuttles. The solar energy company's primary expertise lies with solar water heating. Solar water heating is the name given to the process where we use the power of the sun to heat up your hot water.

Many people are talking about thin film solar cells, also called solar film. Solar energy technologies still remain a costly alternative to the use of readily available fossil fuel technologies. As the price of solar panels decreases, we are likely to see an increase in the use of solar cells to generate electricity.

Most of this information comes straight from the the workings of energy pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you'll know what they know about the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.

Utilities should not be allowed to restrict green power with red tape. Utilities such as Pacific Gas & Electric would then be required to buy the solar power at above-market rates. Kateley said similar programs have proven successful in seventeen countries.

Generating green energy using solar power and panels is a terrific way to take the strain off of the earth and eliminate the need for fossil fuels and pollution. Solar energy can provide power to pump water for animals, swimming pools, and watering gardens. Solar refrigeration, wood-dryers and vehicles are all useful and sensible energy ideas.

Solar energy is everywhere, it's abundant and we'll practically never run out. Even in mid winter we are blessed with a moderate amount of natural daylight provided courtesy of the sun. Solar energy can be used to power cars, boats, generators during emergencies, toys, security systems and even for your home. Simple "passive solar design" techniques reduce the need for mechanical heating and cooling. For example, south-facing windows and the use of heat-absorbing tile, concrete flooring, or other "thermal mass" can keep buildings warmer. They are simple and cheap to build - on grid or off grid.

There's no doubt that the topic of the workings of solar energy can be fascinating. If you still have unanswered questions about the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy, you may find what you're looking for in the next article. - 32387

Home Made Power Plant: Does It Honestly Work?

By Tim McDonald

Introduction

We first thought we would battle to actually follow these diy energy plans, but once we got stuck into the Homemade Power Plant guide, the advice and instruction was great. Homemakers and home improvement fanatics will love this guide - we really had to learn as we went along, since customer support was quick but not that much help.

What we like about it:

1: Great illustrations:

Home Made Power Plant definitely had the best illustrations. The diagrams for the solar power instructions were colorful, large enough to actually see, mainly to scale, correctly labeled, and really easy to follow.

2: Nice Freebies

Home Made Power Plant came with some great freebies. It showed how to maintain our systems and what legal issues we may have to consider. But what what really impressed us, were the power-saving tips. Just using those alone, we have saved almost $300 dollars in power bills over the past 5 months.

3: Increases the market value of your home:

What we liked most about Home Made Power Plant, and all the other diy energy guides, is that the systems added value to our home. We thought this was a myth, until we tried it for ourselves. What we did was get a valuation done before and after the system were installed. We were incredibly impressed with results! With only 2 home solar power and wind turbine systems, our house had increased in value by over $5500. They thought we had had the systems professionally installed - but we did not tell them the truth :)

The Negatives:

1 - Poor customer support

We were not very impressed with customer support. We were not sure about the right way to wire up our solar panels to the house. So we decided to contact customer support. But when they replied all they said was, "Read over the chapter in wiring again. It is all there." But what they did not understand was that our circumstances were different to what was outlined in the guide. Luckily we had experience in diy projects, so we managed to figure it out on our own.

Conclusion:

With the best drawings, and helpful free advice, Homemade Power Plant was well written enough for someone with limited technical know-how to follow. The instructions were rather simple to understand, and though customer support could not help us, at least they replied relatively quickly. - 32387

Solar energy use takes many forms nowadays. Solar panels are getting cheaper. Solar energy allows you to cut down on many expenses that are associated with heating and lighting at home. Why go for energy bills that you can do without. Solar energy is produced at the core of the sun by nuclear fusion. This energy is then radiated to the convection zone, where mixing transfers the energy to the photosphere.

Many people are talking about thin film solar cells, also called solar film. Solar energy technologies still remain a costly alternative to the use of readily available fossil fuel technologies. As the price of solar panels decreases, we are likely to see an increase in the use of solar cells to generate electricity.

It's really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

Solar energy production should be constructed at the local scale, such as residential roof tops, commercial and industrial rooftops, and already distrubed areas. The City of Davis in California has a solar energy complex in the City's former wastewater treatment plant.

Solar energy is as plentiful as daylight, as limitless as organic life itself, a fuel that comes free of charge and replenishes itself every time the earth rotates on its axis.

Wind Power Systems for Homes Cut Electric Bills

By Donald Anthony

As our society matures and we begin to understand and appreciate that everything we do will have an impact on our environment, we are starting to look for better ways of supplying our energy needs. Using wind turbines might just be one of those alternative sources of energy. Harnessing the power of the wind is nothing new, and now both countries around the world and the typical homeowner can produce electricity using the wind and household wind turbines.

Converting wind energy into electricity is done with a wind turbine. You've probably seen these behemoths in fields across the country. Recent advances in the technology have made it possible to downsize the turbines and make them viable for home use. If you've been noticing funny looking 'wind mill' things popping up in your neighborhood, you may have wondered if your neighbors have lost their minds or if they just know something you don't. The truth is that there are wind turbines made especially for home use which are small enough to be mounted in the backyard or on a roof.

For many people, spending $600 to $10,000 for a home wind turbine is simply too much for the budget. Even if you were to save a lot of money on your electric bill, it would still take years to recoup your investment. However, you don't need to give up. The truth is that many homeowners are building their own wind turbines for only a few hundred dollars.

If you are looking to save money you can build a wind turbine yourself. It's an easy process and you do not need any special training. Thousands of people have done it with no special skills or knowledge, and you can too. It will only take a few days and a few hundred dollars. To build a small home wind turbine you will need some supplies, which will cost around $200, and a few days time. That's it. Quite simple, indeed.

Although you may not be able to completely power your home with one wind turbine, the good news is that even a smaller sized turbine can still generate up to 60% of the energy the average homeowner needs for their household energy consumption. This is a tremendous savings.

So if you want to save yourself some money while doing your part to help out the planet, you should consider building and installing your own home wind turbines. You can easily and inexpensively build a wind turbine in just a few days, and enjoy the savings for years to come. - 32387

Climate Changes and Our Future - Now Showing at a Glacier Near You!

By Jerry Dyess

Recent climate changes, also known as global warming, indicate that average increases in temperature around the world are happening because of the carbon dioxide that's increasingly emitted into the atmosphere. No matter where you live, climate change is going to affect you directly. Therefore, it should concern you no matter who you are. Because there are potentially dire consequences as a result of climate change, we need to begin to discuss this problem and take action now before it's too late, and so that others can follow our example. These changes have to be made now so that future and even more catastrophic changes don't happen.

The research does show that heat is being trapped in the atmosphere. Industrial processes, vehicles, and deforestation are producing extra heat, which is increasing average temperatures. Future models project that the planet is over-heating and our environments will be adversely affected in a few years by climate change. Climate change is happening now, but it can be controlled by simple tasks.

What would happen with this type of climate change? Plants and flowers' growth and abilities to survive and thrive will change, as will those of other plants and animals. Glaciers will melt, raise ocean levels, and change weather patterns. Our own activity as humans is what's causing this, of course, and we are also in control of whether or not this can be stopped.

What happens if nothing is done? Plant and animal species will shift and in some cases will become extinct. If you think humans aren't going to be affected by this, think again. Because every living thing depends on other living things, we'll be affected, too. Our food chain will be altered and many species are becoming extinct (in fact, some already have). What we eat will change drastically. Weather patterns will only become more intense, even though we have already begun to see this activity, thus resulting in even more deaths and destruction. Economies, too, will be negatively affected by climate change. Intense storms, for example, could destroy plant food sources like coffee beans or wheat, which in turn is of course going to increase food prices at the grocery store. Besides economic changes to the negative, death itself will also increase among people because of catastrophic weather like tsunami occurrences, major storms, and more hurricane activity.

For those who are members of future generations, intense weather patterns will continue to manifest, increasing death tolls. Economies too, will be negatively impacted because of climate change. Groceries, including things like wheat and coffee, will be much harder to get because intense storms may destroy growing wheat fields or coffee fields, for example. Besides economic failure, though, death tolls in general will also increase because of weather patterns directly, including deaths directly from intense tsunamis, storms and hurricanes.

Increased carbon dioxide is due to industries placing more of the product in the air. Regulations are in place and are being tightened as far as the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that can be put into the air. Also, car emissions are being monitored in some states and need to pass inspections each year. Climate changes can be decreased drastically if industries and cars around the world would decrease their carbon dioxide emissions by three percent a year.

Everyone can help contribute to slow down global warming. Some simple household tasks that can help decrease climate change are recycling, planting a tree, weatherizing your home, and replacing old appliances. Some other tasks include eliminating plastic, buying a fuel-efficient car, and car-pooling to work or school. Younger generations need to be educated about how humans negatively impact their environments and need to be directed on what changes to make for future generations.

Overall, climate changes are evident now and will drastically change the future. The choices that we make now will impact our future for sure. By simply allowing more oxygen in our atmosphere, we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that is covering the Earth like a warm blanket. Humans can start with baby steps to preserve our planet for future generations. Climate changes will impact our future, but we can all help to slow it down and then maybe focus on reversing it. Time is not on our side when it comes to climate changes in the future. - 32387

Top Tips On Solar Energy

By Lucy Diego

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding the facts about solar energy. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about the pros and cons of solar energy.

Solar energy panels are environmental friendly and produce no pollution while generating electricity.

Solar energy generated at home can also be used to light up your home and even heat your home. Hence you can imagine how much money you are saving annually by using this alternate source of power. Solar energy is directly from the Sun. Solar energy works entirely independently, it does not require any connections or anything, so it can be used effectively and easily anywhere. Systems can be set up anywhere, in remote locations as well.

How can you put a limit on learning more facts about solar energy? The next section may contain the pros and cons of solar energy that changes everything.

Not only the eco-friendly usage of outdoor solar lighting, it looks great due to its attractiveness and beauty as compared to normal lighting. Solar energy production should be constructed at the local scale, such as residential roof tops, commercial and industrial rooftops, and already disturbed areas. The City of Davis in California has a solar energy complex in the City's former wastewater treatment plant.

Power generated by using clean energy technologies can also be sold to the other countries, boosting the trade deficit. These can power remote locations, such as a cabin, RV or boat. Build solar-powered ovens and heaters with which to cook food.

Solar energy collectors located at the top will collect energy to be collected and recharged during the day time to be used at night. The power stored in the batter will probably run up to ten hours thanks to LED lights being integrated in to the system. Solar energy is renewable energy which is environmentally friendly, and it is free once the solar panels for electricity generation are in place, except for the cost to maintain and repair this equipment.

There's a lot to understand about facts about solar energy. We were able to provide you with some of the pros and cons of solar energy above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles. - 32387

Important Recycling Facts

By Nicholas Plumley

The only way to keep up with the latest about recycling facts and the environment is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about the environment, it won't take long for you to become an influential authority.

Launching a recycling program in schools will give the children and the youth an opportunity to feel themselves a part of something important, if supplied with necessary educational material. Students will learn how recycling works and most likely keep to the same system at their homes, and moreover, encourage other family members to do that!

A recycling and waste-reduction advocate, says residents should not toss whole, empty pizza boxes into recycling bins. They should just cut off the unsoiled tops, he says, and recycle those. Any equipment that is not working or is more than five years old should be tagged for recycling.

The information about recycling facts and the environment presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about recycling or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

A computer recycler is a business or organization that salvages useful computer parts before breaking down what's left, safely removing hazardous materials in the process. The most commonly found recycling containers are either blue or green and have the mobius (circle of arrows). While these are familiar they are not very attractive and do not provide an easy way to organize your recycling.

The board has identified the waste materials that it will focus upon, and the interventions that it will support based on its ability to make a significant impact. The Business Plan is the main reference document for any one looking to submit an expression of interest. It is an offence to take business waste into the HWRC's as they are only licensed for household waste.

The year long experiment in garbage conservation generated only 30 pounds of trash, 153 glass bottles, 64 plastic bottles and a 50-pound box of paper for recycling. The personal garbage dump fit an organized 10 square feet of basement space. Identify current waste elimination, reuse, recycling and composting policies and programs and select additional policies and programs from a menu of best practices around the world. What I can't use I take down to the recycling centre. So when I was asked by Rubbish to make them a papier mache logo for a promotion in the Lancashire area, I was only too pleased to help.

Take time to consider the recycling facts and environment new presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action. - 32387

Do You Have an Environmental Management Strategy?

By Daniel Stouffer

Top notch multinational corporations have long been aware of their responsibility to a broad range of stakeholders, over and above those who might traditionally be the center of attention for the average business. Almost 80% of the world's biggest companies have a focused environmental management strategy as part of the overall goal to attain corporate sustainability.

In the carbon economy that is now emerging, every corporation regardless of its objectives must look inward and develop its own environmental management strategy. This is no longer a question of paying lip service to environmentalists, rather it is something that is now required by a whole range of stakeholders and is ignored at the company's peril.

The International Standardization Organization released a series of standards, known as the 14,000 series, which really formulated the idea of corporate sustainability. Each company was encouraged to realize the size of its footprint and to come up with a series of ideas and solutions to help it reduce the size and not put unreasonable strains on the environment as a whole.

The ISO has done a considerable service to the world in general by compiling its 14,000 series standards. Many thousands of organizations have adopted these as they move toward sustainability. However, it is generally seen that suggestions are not enough and that we all need to place considerable focus on reversing the already significant damage we can see all around us. As such, an environmental management strategy is long overdue from corporate boardrooms.

To begin an environmental management strategy, is to analyze fundamental areas of the organization. Stakeholders must be identified and their positions and requirements fully understood. The plan must proceed from there to undergo a full lifecycle analysis, involving every single element and understanding all operating principles.

Once an organization has completely understood its operations and revealed, maybe for the first time, its true cost of doing business, it is then ready to promote its environmental management strategy at full speed. Full understanding of all operational elements is required before environmental change can be addressed.

An environmental management strategy is now required of all businesses. Consumers are increasingly aware of the dangers facing us all in terms of carbon emissions and climate change and are turning to organizations for proof that they are also actively engaged in fighting the problem.

To be in compliance with expected legislation and to ensure that the company does not undergo reputational harm through inaction, each organization should consider the introduction of procedures, systems, software and solutions to help it accurately gauge its energy usage, resource usage, greenhouse gas emissions and waste management. With a clear understanding of its liabilities it can be a step ahead of the game and ready to make changes as when required. - 32387

Efficient Use of Dynamic Energy Pricing Can Help Sustainability

By Daniel Stouffer

Senior management who are aware of the growing pressures to achieve corporate sustainability understand that they need not only have a full understanding of how each and every asset beneath them works and contributes to their goals, but also how they can take advantage of the best and cheapest solutions for their ongoing operations. Individual appliances and assets must work together to achieve the overall purpose.

Smart grid technology is going to enable us to achieve the best possible pricing as we purchase energy for use in our businesses. Dynamic energy pricing works by looking at different pricing structures, supply and demand and is offered by a variety of utility companies across the country.

The idea behind smart grid architecture is to make sure that electricity flows to the most needed area according to the best rate possible and the best time. As this architecture becomes more widely used it will make for a much more efficient business environment. Energy efficiency, corporate sustainability and a reduced carbon footprint will all be byproducts of this technology in future.

It is possible to assess, monitor and confirm load data down to individual company asset level through different available solutions today. When this is added together the consumer will be best placed to take advantage of the dynamic energy pricing that may be available within the market. More so, instantaneous reaction will be possible to ensure that when pricing signals are received they are acted upon.

Electricity grids have been traditionally very inefficient, as they are based on high demand peaks and inefficient off-peak lows. An enterprise that can take advantage of dynamic energy pricing will definitely be able to score a competitive advantage over its peers.

Intelligent data may now be gathered from all levels of customer equipment with the objective of matching data with information provided through smart grid companies. The highest possible efficiency may be achieved through such a detailed approach.

It follows that should cheaper energy and electricity be available through dynamic energy pricing, the overall operation will achieve better efficiency as well.

Dynamic energy pricing is merely one tool in the arsenal of the forward thinking business executive as the new world of corporate sustainability is unveiled before us. - 32387

On Demand Sustainability is Essential

By Daniel Stouffer

Major forces have been at work in recent times and they have all come together to project a "perfect storm" of responsibility. We have all seen what excesses can do during the recent most severe economic downturn and we are likely to want to lead our collective lives in a different manner in the future. In addition, there's been a growing call for action when it comes to climate related issues and it is certain that we are all going to need to take responsibility for this action as well in future. Business around the world must now understand and engage in a process of on-demand sustainability, whether they like it or not.

It is no longer good enough to accept certain elements as just part of a process of doing business and that pollution and waste and a general inefficient approach can be written off as expenses on a broader balance sheet. To be able to survive in the new and highly competitive business world ahead, management must have a clear concept of on-demand sustainability and know that they need to act very quickly to counter the threats.

Consumer opinion is firmly against waste of any kind and is now very educated when it comes to the damage that has been caused to our environment and our climate in general by our overuse, our reliance on fossil fuels and excess energy production. This opinion will drive corporate boardrooms to fully understand the entire operation, to make sure that they are fit and trim and able to make any changes necessary as quickly as possible through clear on-demand sustainability.

How does an organization define its marketplace anymore as there are a number of significant new forces in play. carbon emissions have been judged as one of our greatest threats and unless we act we know that future generations will face major problems. As carbon itself is now being reclassified as a traded commodity it is something that each organization will have to understand, deal with and pay for as complex dynamics will enter the scenario.

An organization can not trade competitively unless it is fully aware of and able to control every element of its business and conserve as much as possible. This is at the core of on-demand sustainability. Resources such as water must be viewed as the most precious commodity that it is and it will be no longer acceptable to produce waste unless there is good reason for doing so.

Asset performance is part of the makeup of every organization. A full life cycle analysis should be composed, allowing the business to see whether each of its assets is really performing to its ultimate ability or not. An ability to do this and to combine findings into a global picture dictates whether the process of on-demand sustainability will work for an organization.

Reputational harm, legislative fines and/or a loss of market competitiveness face the organization that is not nimble and able to move very quickly in the future to keep up with changes. This process of on-demand sustainability ensures a complete education and a retooling of the business.

As full software and solutions exist with the specific goal of analyzing functionality of individual assets across the distributed enterprise, the implementation of these systems should be a top priority for corporate management if they hope to be competitive and in conformation. - 32387
